Everything you need to know before your first quest at Cake or Dice.
What is Cake or Dice?
Cake or Dice is Dundee's board game café, with 580+ games, affordable food and drink and a welcoming, alcohol free space. We are a community interest company, so profits go back into the café and our activities.
When are you open?
Wednesday to Friday 1:30pm to 10pm, Saturday 12pm to 10pm, Sunday 12pm to 7pm. We are closed on Monday and Tuesday.
Last food orders are 9pm Wednesday to Saturday and 6pm on Sunday.

How much does it cost to play?
A Day Pass is £10 and gives you all games, all day. £10 covers up to 4 players, add extra players for £2.50 each. Pay in the café when you arrive.
Or join the Guild (see below) and play every visit without buying a pass.
What is the Guild Membership?
Guild Membership is £37.50 a month and is available online only. It covers you plus one friend on every visit, with no Day Pass needed. Members also get:
- Use of the café to play your own games, RPGs and campaigns (subject to table availability)
- 10% off food and drink
- A monthly mystery loot box
- Members only Discord
- Random freebies and surprise gifts
- A birthday reward
- Quarterly prize draws
- A chance of rare bonus loot in your monthly box
Do I need to book?
Booking is recommended in the evenings and we highly recommend booking at weekends. Walk ins are welcome when tables are free. Book a table.
What food and drink do you offer?
Breakfast rolls, tavern burgers, sandwiches, pizza, sides and favourites, plus Glen Lyon coffee, Broughty Blends teas, cold drinks, milkshakes and cakes. Vegan options are available. See our menu.
Do you serve alcohol?
No. We are an alcohol free venue, and many of our visitors choose us for exactly that.
Can we bring our own games?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own games. A Day Pass or Guild Membership is still needed to use table space, even if you are playing your own game rather than one from our library.
How long can we stay?
Your Day Pass covers all games, all day, within our opening hours. Many groups order food and drink and make a day or evening of it.
Can I come on my own?
Yes. Lots of people visit solo. Our events, such as the Dundee Boardgamers Sunday drop in and our meetups, are a great way to meet other players. See What's On.
Are children welcome?
Families are very welcome. A kids menu is available in the café, just ask. Children must be supervised at all times, and not all games are suitable for all ages.
Are pets welcome?
Yes. We are a completely pet friendly café: all dogs are welcome, not just assistance dogs, and we have had lots of other animals visit too. Pet friendly, no matter the shape or size. Ask for a free pupcup!
Is the café accessible?
The café and toilets are step free throughout, with tables spaced for wheelchair access. An induction loop is available on request. We are ARFID friendly and allergy aware, so please tell us your requirements. Read our Safe spaces and Accessibility page.
Can I host a party or private event?
Yes. We offer table reservations and private hire, from small gatherings to full café takeovers, depending on availability. Contact us with your preferred date and group size.
Do you run events?
Yes. Our calendar includes mini painting nights, the Dundee Boardgamers drop in, playtesting meetups, crafts sessions, book launches, socials and community groups. Some events are ticketed by their organisers. See What's On for upcoming dates.
Can I volunteer?
We have a small team of volunteers supporting front of house and the kitchen, and run a volunteer employability programme. Keep an eye on our socials or get in touch if you are interested.
How can I support Cake or Dice?
Visit regularly, bring friends, come to events, join the Guild, and buy food, drink or merchandise. Every contribution helps us grow.
